  1. I use cooperative groups a lot. I do think that working in groups builds important skills in kids- teamwork, cooperation, perseverance, and the ability to compromise. I have different groups for different subjects. Sometimes I partner a high student with two lower ones if we are partner reading or doing a math assignment. I have kids on the same level for my reading groups and math small groups so the low students can move at their pace and the higher ones can be challenged with the assignments I give to them. There are times when I let students choose their groups as well. I think that this is important at times too--it gives them some choice about who they want to work with in their group. Students can be great teachers for each other.

  2. I enjoyed sharing ideas with everyone. It was interesting to seel how our ideas about cooperative groups are similiar. The only difficulty I am having is handling the students who have strong leadership qualities, but do not use these qualities in a positive way during groupwork. If anyone has any suggestions, I would welcome them.

  3. I'm actually using the music idea as a timer today. The class is going to work on Vocab. from their Stone Fox books. Since the class is pretty well behaved, I'm sure that the coop learning is going to run smoothly, as well as help those that need a little extra.
    Thanks!
